Patrick Schwarzenegger is one of the breakout stars of Season 3 of The White Lotus and wants to emphasize his last name has nothing to do with it.
The eldest son of Hollywood action star Arnold Schwarzenegger, 31-year-old Patrick has turned heads as the briefly nude Saxton Ratliff on the HBO anthology drama. And he scoffs at anyone who thinks his famous family—and not his acting ability—helped him earn the role.
“They’re not seeing that I’ve had 10 years of acting classes, put on school plays every week, worked on my characters for hours on end, or the hundreds of rejected auditions I’ve been on,” he told The Sunday Times. “Of course, it’s frustrating, and you can get boxed in, and you think at that moment, I wish I didn’t have my last name. But that’s a small moment.”
Patrick isn’t the only Schwarzenegger child to follow in his dad’s footsteps.
Arnold, the governor of California from 2003 through 2011, has five children. Four are from his relationship with ex-wife Maria Shriver. The couple married in 1986 and were together until 2011, when Schwarzenegger admitted he had fathered another son during an affair with their longtime housekeeper, Mildred Baena, in 1997. He and Shriver officially divorced in 2021.
As for his kids, they’ve taken up interests in acting, writing, and bodybuilding. One is even married to a popular star of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Here’s what you need to know about the 77-year-old’s three sons and two daughters.
Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt
Katherine, born in December 1989, is the oldest of Schwarzenegger and Shriver’s children. The 35-year-old is a New York Times best-selling author of three self-help books, including 2010’s Rock What You’ve Got, and has also written the children’s books Good Night, Sister and Maverick and Me. Beyond writing, she’s an ambassador for organizations such as the ASPCA and Special Olympics.
Katherine looks up to her famous parents and the example they set as she raises her two daughters, Lyla and Eloise, with husband and Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt. The two started dating in the summer of 2018 after Shriver set them up. The couple has been married since June 2019.
“I literally, I just want to do exactly what my parents did,” Katherine said during an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, “because I’m so close with my family and I talk to them all multiple times every day.” Apparently, it’s working. Pratt spoke about her “authoritarian” parenting style during a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. “Katherine inherited some of that Austrian toughness [from Arnold],” he told the host.
Christina Schwarzenegger
Christina, 33, is the second child of Schwarzenegger and Shriver. According to People, she graduated from Georgetown University with a degree in English in 2013 and worked three years as an editor for Gwyneth Paltrow’s lifestyle brand Goop. She and her mother served as executive producers on the 2018 Netflix documentary Take Your Pills, which shared details of her experience with Adderall addiction.
In a celebratory birthday post from July 2021, Arnold praised his daughter’s artistic ability and her work through the Special Olympics Founder’s Council. “I enjoy nothing more than hanging out with you, whether we are training together or traveling the world,” he said.
Patrick Schwarzenegger
Patrick was born on September 18, 1993, and is the third of Shriver and Schwarzenegger’s four children. As established, Patrick became an actor like his father, and The White Lotus isn’t his first role. The 31-year-old has appeared in movies like the 2006 sports comedy The Benchwarmers, as well as Grown Ups 2 (2013), Midnight Sun (2018), and Moxie (2021). He also played Todd Peterson in the 2022 HBO miniseries The Staircase.
The rising star told People he kept his audition for The White Lotus a secret from his family and surprised them a week after his casting. And despite his clarification on earning the role on his own, he is grateful for his family’s support throughout his career. “I would never trade my life with anyone,” he said. “I’m very fortunate to have the life and family that I have, the parents I have and the lessons and values they’ve instilled in me.”
Patrick notably dated pop star Miley Cyrus before his current relationship with model Abby Champion. The couple became engaged in December 2023.
Christopher Schwarzenegger
Christopher, 27, is the youngest of Schwarzenegger and Shriver’s four children. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 2020, which his father celebrated in a heartfelt Instagram post.
Unlike his siblings, Christopher has stayed out of the public eye. However, Arnold has revealed he has a host of hobbies, including boxing, cycling, and weightlifting. “You’re so smart, and you have such a big heart,” he said of Christopher in a 2021 Facebook post.
Joseph Baena
Joseph, 27, is Schwarzenegger’s son with longtime housekeeper Mildred Baena. Arnold told 60 Minutes in 2012 he didn’t realize he was Joseph’s father for seven or eight years, until the child’s resemblance made it apparent.
Joseph was likewise unaware of his identity, according to People, but has since grown very close with his father. He attended the premiere of his Arnold’s Netflix series FUBAR in 2023 but walked the red carpet alone as his half-siblings reportedly don’t talk to him.
Like Arnold, Baena is a bodybuilder and actor. He competed on Season 31 of the reality show Dancing with the Stars and is set to star, with Morgan Freeman and Luke Hemsworth, in an upcoming action film called Gunner.
