6 Black Country Singers Who Have Made History, Including Beyoncé
The pop and R&B icon is a now a bona fide country star thanks to her Grammy-winning 2024 album Cowboy Carter.
Beyoncé made history upon the release of her 2024 country album Cowboy Carter and shattered ever more barriers on Sunday at the 2025 Grammy Awards. The 43-year-old pop and R&B superstar cemented her status among country greats with trophies for Best Country Album and Best Country/Duo Group Performance. She is the first Black female solo artist to win a Grammy for country music.
Cowboy Carter also won the highly coveted Album of the Year title. Beyoncé dedicated that win to Linda Martell, the 83-year-old genre trailblazer who appeared on the album tracks “Spaghettii” and “The Linda Martell Show.” During her acceptance speech, Beyoncé said, “I hope we just keep pushing forward, opening doors.”
Queen Bey previously became the first Black woman to lead the Top Country Albums chart with the debut of Cowboy Carter, which also features star-studded collaborations with Dolly Parton, Shaboozey, Miley Cyrus, and Post Malone.
