Nick Jonas News: Jonas Brothers Release New Album
Nick Jonas is back with a new Jonas Brothers project. The group is set to release their sixth studio album, Greetings from Your Hometown, on August 8. Jonas and his Grammy-nominated band of brothers previewed the record in March with the release of the upbeat acoustic single “Love Me to Heaven” and again in June with the Bee Gees-inspired bop “No Time to Talk.”
In an interview with Ticketmaster in May, the 32-year-old revealed that Greetings from Your Hometown is a “love letter” to his home state of New Jersey. “There’s a heavy influence of Bruce Springsteen and storytelling behind some of the greats from the state,” he said. “But also, it’s just about coming back to those roots. We are a family at our core, more than a band or anything else. Any time we come back to that feeling of playing music in our living room in Jersey, it’s a great feeling.”
The new album will also be supported by the Jonas20: Greetings From Your Hometown Tour, which marks the 20th anniversary of the Jonas Brothers.

Early Life
Nicholas Jerry Jonas was born on September 16, 1992, in Dallas, Texas. His mother, Denise Jonas, was an American Sign Language teacher, and his father, Kevin Jonas Sr., was a pastor. He was raised in Wyckoff, New Jersey, with his older brothers, Kevin and Joe, and his younger brother, Frankie. Growing up, Nick was homeschooled by his mother, along with Kevin and Joe, and all three boys played music together. Nick developed his musical abilities at an early age, learning to the play the drums at just 3 years old. He later took up guitar and piano.
Jonas began his career at age 6, when he was singing in a hair salon while his mother got a haircut and was discovered by a show business manager. In 2000, he made his first stage appearance in the Madison Square Garden production of A Christmas Carol, in which he portrayed a young Scrooge and understudied Tiny Tim. The following year, a 9-year-old Jonas made his Broadway debut as Little Jake in a revival of Annie Get Your Gun, starring Reba McEntire. His Broadway career continued with roles as replacement alternates in Beauty and the Beast and Les Misérables.
While working on Broadway, Jonas wrote a Christmas song with his father called “Joy to the World (A Christmas Prayer),” which included vocals from his Beauty and the Beast castmates. The song was originally featured on the 2002 Broadway holiday album Broadway’s Greatest Gifts: Carols for a Cure, Vol. 4, and a demo copy of the track was subsequently sent to INO Records. In 2004, Jonas was signed to the label as a solo artist. It was around this time that his musically inclined siblings, Kevin and Joe, co-wrote a few songs with him. This eventually led to the formation of their three-brother band, the Jonas Brothers.
Jonas Brothers
It’s About Time and Jonas Brothers
After showcasing their song “Please Be Mine,” Nick and his brothers were signed to Columbia Records in 2005. The Jonas Brothers released their debut record, It’s About Time, in 2006, but they were dropped by the label shortly after. In early 2007, Disney’s Hollywood Records picked up the trio, and by summer’s end, their songs and music videos were all over Radio Disney and the Disney Channel.
It was around this time the boys drew scrutiny for wearing purity rings, which are used as a Christian symbol of abstinence. Reflecting on the decision to wear them publicly, Nick said on Watch What Happens Live 2023, “In theory, they’re not a bad idea. But you should know what you’re signing up for before you sign up for it.” Just one year after making their debut, the Jonas Brothers released their self-titled sophomore album to much success. The record debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart and was eventually certified double platinum. It feature the singles “Hold On,” “Year 3000,” and “S.O.S.,” which soared to No. 17 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. Their early success earned the Jonas Brothers their first Grammy Awards nomination for Best New Artist.
A Little Bit Longer and Lines, Vines and Trying Times
The Jonas Brothers scored their first No. 1 album in 2008 with A Little Bit Longer. The hit single “Burnin’ Up” made it into the Hot 100’s top 5 and included the tracks “Lovebug” and “Tonight.” Nick wrote the title track about his experience with type 1 diabetes.
The brothers released their next effort, Lines, Vines and Trying Times, in 2009. The album debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 chart and sold 247,000 copies in its first week. “The title is a bit of poetry we came up with on the set for the TV show,” Nick told Rolling Stone at the time. “Lines are something that someone feeds you, whether it’s good or bad. Vines are the things that get in the way of the path that you’re on, and trying times—well, obviously we’re younger guys, but we’re aware of what’s going on in the world and we’re trying to bring some light to it.” The record featured the charting singles “Paranoid” and “Fly With Me,” as well as the track “World War III,” which Nick wrote about a “personal experience” with a combative ex-girlfriend, rumored to be Miley Cyrus.
Breakup of the Jonas Brothers
After a brief hiatus, the Jonas Brothers released the 2013 singles “First Time” and “Pom Poms,” which were to be included on their fifth album, V. But that October, the pop group canceled their tour and scrapped the album, and just weeks later, announced their decision to break up. One of the main reasons for the split was Nick’s desire to pursue a solo career. “I was feeling kind of trapped,” he told People at the time. Later on, the three men revealed they disagreed creatively on the direction of the band and were drifting apart as brothers.
Five years later, in 2018, rumors of a reunion began to circulate when the Jonas Brothers reactivated their Instagram account. The move was accompanied by a photo posted to former backing musician Ryan Liestman’s Instagram page, featuring the brothers and the caption, “Family reunion.” While there was no immediate confirmation, fans got their answer just one year later when the band announced their return in February 2019.
Return With Happiness Begins
The Jonas Brothers kicked off their grand reunion in March 2019 with the release of “Sucker,” their first new single in nearly six years. The song was accompanied by a music video featuring their respective love interests, including Nick’s wife, Priyanka Chopra Jonas. The single debuted at No. 1, as did their reunion album, Happiness Begins, released that June.
Explaining their decision to break up and get back together, Nick told Paper Magazine he and his brothers “lost touch with what we wanted to say” and that “our level of success and fame had reached a point, where our musicianship and writing and performing abilities needed time to grow and catch up to it.”
He added, “It really took the last six, seven years to figure out who we were as people and what kind of music we wanted to make.” The aftermath of their breakup was also explored in the 2019 documentary film Chasing Happiness.
After enjoying more chart success with the single “Only Human,” the trio hit the road for their Happiness Begins Tour. Their reunion was marked by more success when “Sucker” received a 2020 Grammy nomination for Best Pop Group Performance.
The Album and Greetings From Your Hometown
The Jonas Brothers followed up with The Album in May 2023, which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart. Leaning into the yacht rock genre, the record was a departure from their previous work, featuring the singles “Waffle House” and “Wings.” While it received positive reviews from critics, it didn’t perform as well commercially, selling only 35,000 copies in its first week.
The group’s latest work, Greetings from Your Hometown, is set to arrive August 8, 2025. The album will feature the previously released singles “Love Me to Heaven” and “No Time to Talk.” It will also be supported by the Jonas20: Greetings From Your Hometown Tour, which marks the 20th anniversary of the Jonas Brothers.
Solo Music Career
Before he teamed up with brothers Joe and Kevin to form the Jonas Brothers, Nick pursued a career as a solo artist. At just 12 years old, he released his debut studio album Nicholas Jonas through INO and Columbia Records in 2004. The record included “Joy to the World (A Christmas Prayer),” as well as the song “Please Be Mine,” which was later rereleased as a Jonas Brothers track.
After skyrocketing to fame with his brothers, Jonas embarked on a side project in 2009, forming of Nick Jonas & the Administration. In 2010, the blues rock band released one album, Who I Am, which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart. They later parted ways in 2012.
Following his split from the Jonas Brothers, Nick resumed his career as a solo artist. In 2014, he signed with Island Records and released his self-titled sophomore album. The well-received record featured the hit single “Jealous,” which peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. To promote the record, he embarked on his first solo headlining tour called Nick Jonas Live. In an interview with TIME magazine that August, Jonas said starting his solo career as an adult was a “bold choice” for him. “That took a lot just to get to that place where I could have that conversation and roll it out from there,” he said. “And I really did push myself to step outside of my comfort zone.”
In May 2015, Jonas co-founded the now-defunct label Safehouse Records with Demi Lovato through a joint venture with Island Records. The goal of the label was to give artists more say over their careers. Safehouse went on to release his 2016 album Last Year Was Complicated, which became his highest charting solo album. “I had a break-up last year that was challenging and then kind of became a big theme in the album,” he said on the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show at the time. “Then it was about being honest in the storytelling and not being afraid to go there.” The record was accompanied by a docuseries of the same name.
That same year, he co-headlined the Future Now Tour with Lovato and made his solo musical guest debut on SNL.
For his songwriting contributions, Jonas was awarded the Songwriting Hall of Fame’s Hal David Starlight Award in 2016 and later earned a Golden Globe nomination in 2018 for his work on the Ferdinand soundtrack. The track “Home,” which he both wrote and performed, was nominated for Best Original Song. In 2021, he crossed off his first hosting gig at the Billboard Music Awards and released his latest solo effort, Spaceman.
Solo Albums
Jonas flourished as a solo artist following the release of his 2014 sophomore album, Nick Jonas, which sold 37,000 copies in its first week. This success was followed by Last Year Was Complicated, claiming the No. 2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In total, the singer has four solo albums (Nicholas Jonas, Nick Jonas, Last Year Was Complicated, and Spaceman), as well as one collaborative album outside of his work with the Jonas Brothers.

While balancing a recording career, Jonas also worked as an actor. In 2025, Jonas made his stage acting comeback as Jamie Wellerstein in the Broadway debut of the musical The Last Five Years.
Health
Jonas was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when he was 13 years old. The diagnosis came as a surprised to the singer, who was unaware of the disease, which causes the pancreas to struggle to create its own insulin. “I had no idea. I just knew that I wasn’t feeling well and was losing all this weight,” he said on Penn Badgley’s podcast, Podcrushed, in July 2025. It was only when his brother, Joe, pointed out how frail he looked that he went to the doctor. Since getting diagnosed, Jonas has become advocate for diabetes awareness.
