Zendaya has pulled out all the stops during her most recent press tour for The Challengers. In between her comfy tennis outfits and high-end custom tennis gowns (like this stunning bejeweled Loewe dress), the actress continues to sport her breezy street style in the most chic way possible. And what is the main accessory? Ballet flats. The shoes can be easily dressed up or down for any occasion and are famous for their lack of structure, squared-off toe, and thin soles — although, now, there are several variations with slight heels and rounded toes more suitable for everyday wear.

Ballet flats were popular in the 1950s and 1960s, with famous faces like Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy sporting them. Then came another resurgence in the mid-2000s, with megastars like Rihanna and Taylor Swift wearing flats on red carpets or on the streets of New York City. Zendaya seems to favor the shoe with or without a slight heel, often pictured pairing them with trousers or loose maxi skirts. In past years, the Dune actress stepped out in the controversial black Maison Margiela Tabi ballerinas simply because of its split toe. Zendaya’s most recent appearance with the nude-colored tabi ballet flats was at a vintage store in Australia. The Spider-Man: Far From Home star paired them with a cream-colored cinch-waist maxi skirt and a white fitted halter top.

As we continue onto Zendaya’s ballet flats journey, we’d be remiss not to mention the (almost sold out) Loro Piana Rebecca Leather Ballet Flats in color Earth she wore with oversized gray trousers and sweater. Or the Vagabond Shoemakers Women’s Wioletta Mesh Ballet Flats (which are only $130). The actress matched the off-white colored flats to a khaki trench coat, loose black trousers, and a bulky sweatshirt.

After a long press tour, The Challengers made it to the top of the box office this past weekend with a $15 million debut (per Deadline). Is the film’s success partially owed to Zendaya’s incredible custom outfits and evolving fashion sense? Probably.
