Elon Musk’s brood just keeps on growing. The Tesla and SpaceX CEO has now fathered at least 14 children with four women. Three of his kids were just recently made known to the public in February.

Musk, 53, has repeatedly expressed his belief that having more kids is important for the future of humanity and is on his own personal mission to help reach that goal. “Doing my best to help the underpopulation crisis,” the X owner posted in July 2022. “A collapsing birth rate is the biggest danger civilization faces by far.”

The U.S. birth rate has been steadily declining since 2007, despite a small uptick in 2024, which saw over 3.6 million babies born. While researchers are concerned about the long-term economic implications of the country’s birth rate, having more children isn’t the only way to encourage a strong economy. But it is the basket Musk is choosing to place his eggs in.

The White House advisor first became a father when he and his ex-wife Justine Musk welcomed a son named Nevada in May 2002. Tragically, the baby died from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome at just 10 weeks old.

Since then, Elon has become a father many times over, mostly through in vitro fertilization and surrogacy. He has nine living sons and four daughters who range in age from 6 months to 20 years old, though the birth date of one child is still unknown. This includes his infant son, Romulus, who Elon hasn’t publicly confirmed amid a custody battle with the child’s mother. However, a recent paternity test confirmed the boy is Elon’s.

Here’s what you should know about Elon Musk’s children.

Twins Vivian and Griffin

Ages: 20

Mom: Justine Musk

Following the death of their firstborn, Elon and Justine underwent IVF treatments to grow their family and welcomed twins Vivian and Griffin in April 2004. Almost exactly 18 years later, in April 2022, Vivian came out as transgender and petitioned a court to change her legal name and gender. In addition to changing her first name to Vivian, she adopted her mother’s maiden name, Wilson, as her new surname, explaining that she no longer wanted “to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form.”

Elon said it was Vivian’s schooling that caused the rift in their relationship, citing his belief that elite schools and universities have embraced “full-on Communism” in an interview with Financial Times in October 2022. He later claimed he was “tricked” into allowing her to undergo gender-affirming care as a teenager and misgendered her to say that she is “dead, killed by the woke mind virus.”

This past July, Elon misgendered Vivian once again in a post on X, claiming that she was “born gay and slightly autistic.” He also asserted that she was would pick out jackets for him and call them “fabulous” at the age of 4. “This entire thing is completely made up and there’s a reason for this,” she said in response to the post. “He doesn’t know what I was like as a child because he quite simply wasn’t there, and in the little time that he was I was relentlessly harassed for my femininity and queerness.”

Vivian recently told Teen Vogue that she hasn’t spoken to her father since 2020 and that she doesn’t know how many half-siblings she has. She also condemned the straight-armed gesture he gave at President Donald Trump’s inaugural parade in January. “Honey, we’re going to call a fig a fig, and we’re going to call a Nazi salute what it was. That sh–– was definitely a Nazi salute,” she said. Vivian also stated that his “further” rightward political shift was “not because of me.”

Now a college student, Vivian is currently studying abroad in Tokyo and regularly posts on Instagram, Threads, and Bluesky. Her twin brother, Griffin, on the other hand, has kept a low profile but was seen in public with his dad as recently as May 2024.

Triplets Kai, Saxon, and Damian

Ages: 19

Mom: Justine Musk

Elon and Justine used IVF to conceive three more children together. Their triplets—Kai, Saxon, and Damian—were born in January 2006. While little is known about the three boys, Musk’s biographer Walter Isaacson referred to Damian as a classic music prodigy in his 2023 book Elon Musk, adding that the child also excels at math and physics.

Both Damian and Kai were with Elon when he met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi around 2015. The billionaire has also made multiple mentions of Saxon online.

Following the birth of their triplets, Justine and Elon’s marriage broke down, and the couple divorced in 2008.

X Æ A-Xii, Exa, and Techno

Ages: X Æ A-Xii, 4; Exa, 3; and Techno, 2

Mom: Grimes

In May 2018, Elon started dating musician Grimes, whose real name is Claire Boucher. They were in relationship for four years and had three kids together before calling it quits in March 2022.

X Æ A-ii has often appeared with his dad at Elon’s professional events.

The pair had their first child in May 2020. Elon originally announced that the boy’s name was X Æ A-12, but this was later tweaked to X Æ A-Xii to comply with California law. The name, which is pronounced X-Ash-A-Twelve, was partly inspired by the Lockheed A-12 reconnaissance aircraft. It was later revealed that the couple used IVF to conceive the child, who Elon often refers to as “X” or “Lil X.”

In an interview with The New York Times in June 2020, Elon gave some insight into his parenting style. “Well, babies are just eating and pooping machines, you know? Right now there’s not much I can do,” he said. “When the kid gets older, there will be more of a role for me. I think just doing what I’ve done with my other kids. If I have a trip for Tesla to China, for example, I’ll bring the kids with me.”

Of all his children, Elon is most often seen with his son, X. According to Grimes, he views the boy as his “protégé.” Since the entrepreneur started running the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in January, the 4-year-old has appeared with him at the White House on several occasions. He even attended a press conference in the Oval Office with his dad and the president in February. In a viral video from the event, X reportedly told Trump, “You’re not the president and you need to go away.”

Elon and Grimes privately welcomed their second child, a daughter named Exa Dark Sideræl (pictured above), via surrogate in December 2021. Grimes announced her birth in an interview with Vanity Fair in March 2022.

Despite their breakup that same month, Elon and Grimes went on to have a third child, a son named Techno Mechanicus and nicknamed “Tau,” in June 2022. The news of his birth wasn’t revealed until September 2023 when Isaacson’s biography of Elon came out. Around this time, the co-parents filed dueling lawsuits against each other to establish their parental rights of their three children, leading to a year-long custody battle. While their dispute ended in November 2024, the case was sealed from the public, leaving the outcome unknown.

Grimes hasn’t been thrilled with the publicity X has been receiving of late and has “begged” Musk to keep their children out of the public eye. “The state of my children’s lives being public is of grave concern to me and I think about how to solve this every day,” she wrote on social media. “I would hope there was some law that would allow a parent to veto small children from living public lives but I don’t even trust the law to help me now if I tried to invoke it.”

Twins Strider and Azure

Ages: 3

Mom: Shivon Zilis

While still in a relationship with Grimes, Elon quietly welcomed twins with Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis using IVF. Their daughter Azure and son Strider were born in November 2021 just weeks before the birth of Elon and Grimes’ daughter, Exa. It wasn’t until July 2022, however, that Azure’s and Strider’s existences was made public.

Although the two have never been romantically involved, Isaacson referred to Zilis as Elon’s “intellectual companion” in his biography. They are professional colleagues, who met through Neuralink, which Elon owns.

Arcadia and Seldon

Ages: Arcadia, 1; Seldon, unknown

Mom: Shivon Zilis

Three years after the birth of their twins, Elon and Zilis had a third child together in February 2024. Musk confirmed that he had fathered another kid with Zilis that June but didn’t elaborate. On the baby’s first birthday, Zilis revealed on social media the co-parents have a girl named Arcadia.

The same day, Zilis made another big announcement: She and Elon had welcomed another son named Seldon Lycurgus. His exact birth date is unknown.

Since October 2024, Zilis and the kids moved into one of the homes on the entrepreneur’s $35 million family compound in Austin, Texas.

Romulus

Age: approximately 8 months

Mom: Ashley St. Clair

Seldon isn’t the only recent addition to Elon’s offspring. In February, conservative influencer Ashley St. Clair said she gave birth to his baby the previous September. In a social media post, St. Clair stated she wanted to protect their child’s privacy but was forced to come forward to get ahead of a tabloid story. The following day, she told the New York Post that their child was a boy and that it was Elon’s idea to keep the baby a secret.

After a week of silence from Elon, St. Clair filed a petition in New York State court to establish paternity and gain sole custody of their son, who is referred to as R.S.C. in the legal document. The filing includes a photo of Elon holding his alleged son. St. Clair later shared the boy’s name is Romulus.

According to the petition, she and the DOGE head had a romantic relationship in 2024, during the course of which their son was conceived. Since Romulus was born, Elon has reportedly seen him only three times, with the most recent visit taking place this past November.

The billionaire didn’t publicly acknowledge the boy or respond to St. Clair’s claims until late March. “I don’t know if the child is mine or not, but am not against finding out. No court order is needed,” he posted on X. “Despite not knowing for sure, I have given Ashley $2.5M and am sending her $500k/year.”

At that point, however, Elon had already hired a lawyer to represent him in the now-sealed case and reportedly requested a gag order against St. Clair. Her legal team also claimed that he significantly reduced his financial support to her and the baby since the legal dispute began.

In April, the paternity test results confirmed Elon is Romulus’ biological father. In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, St. Clair said Elon didn’t want his surname on the birth certificate for supposed security concerns. She also stated he offered her $15 million and a stipend of $100,000 per month in order to keep quiet about his paternity.
