There’s no doubt that books have been getting more expensive lately. What’s the deal with that, anyway? All a bookworm like myself wants to do is curl up in a small corner and read without putting myself in debt. Maybe I’m being dramatic, but whatever the case may be, it’s good that Amazon decided to put a bunch of books on sale for Presidents’ Day weekend. Lots and lots of books, too: It doesn’t matter what your favorite genre is—whether that be riveting mysteries, love stories for the hopeless romantics, or even celebrity memoirs. Amazon has probably got something in store for you and at a steal of a price.
I’ve done my research (mostly for selfish reasons, because I, too, am on the prowl for my next big read), and the results were fascinating. I’ve really outdone myself here, fellow readers. If you’re a lover of fantasy books, then you know all about Rebecca Yarros and The Empyrean series she created (famously starting with Fourth Wing). Yarros recently released Onyx Storm, the third book in the storyline, and fans are already going crazy. The story follows twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail and how she deals with the world’s biggest pressures—with the addition of mystical creatures like dragons! William Morrow & Company “The Guest List” by Lucy Foley
As most Lucy Foley books go, this one is full of twists and turns. Especially at the end! You’ll dive into the lives of guests at a wedding that takes place off the coast of Ireland. Naturally, someone ends up dead. So, were they killed? If so, who did it? Why? Could it be... the mistress? The best friend? No one is off the hook until the very, very end. Reese Witherspoon featured this as a book club pick.
Canongate Books “The Midnight Library” by Matt Haig
A life full of regrets is a life most people don’t want to live. When Nora finds herself in a state between life and death, she is immediately transported to a magical library. In this library, she is presented with the lives she could have lived if she had made different choices growing up. She is made to try out and live these said lives (because it’s a fantasy)—but she must make sure she returns to the library at midnight.
Emily Henry is the queen of modern romance novels, and BookTok seems to agree. Her recent book, Funny Story, proves this point even more. Readers will meet Daphne, a woman recently dumped by her fiancé Peter... who left her for his best friend. Peter’s “best friend” is Petra—a woman he swore Daphne never had to worry about. Petra, in turn, was dating a man Miles. It really is a funny story, because Daphne and Miles end up finding themselves linked together in an unlikely romance.
William Morrow “The Midnight Feast: A Novel” by Lucy Foley
Yes, Foley is making a second appearance on this list. TikTok loves her! The Midnight Feast is another thriller by the author. This one follows a group celebrating the summer solstice at the Manor—a well-known luxury estate (totally normal). A murder takes place, of course, and everyone is shocked. Because this group is filled with people from a mix of social classes, the motive of this murder is unclear. You might think you know who did it, but the end will truly surprise you.

When I first began working at Biography.com, I immediately noticed how often Associate Reviews Editor Tom Price takes his lunch break to read a book. (He’s one of those Brooklyn boys who always has a paperback in hand to match his aesthetic—and it works). So, naturally, I asked for his recent favorite, and he presented me with The Thursday Murder Club.
To Tom, this book is a “fun murder mystery that’s surprisingly warm and doesn’t take itself too seriously.” Cozy and murder vibes? I honestly think that’s enough for me to read it within the next few days. Especially since it’s on sale!
St. Martin’s Griffin “Red, White & Royal Blue” by Casey McQuiston
Red, White & Royal Blue has everything I want in a book. The main character, Alex Claremont-Diaz, is sassy and pretty pessimistic (like me!), and also happens to be the son of the President of the United States (not like me!). He hates pretty much everything and everyone (besides his sister), including Prince Henry from Britain. The two guys despise each other so much that it gains global attention. So, they must now try to fake that they like each other so that the tabloids can settle down. But faking something so much starts to make it feel real. If you know what I mean.
