Post Malone Now: Singer Seeks First Grammy with 8 Nominations

Post Malone already had a good chance of winning his first career Grammy at the 2025 ceremony on February 2. Now, his odds are even better. Malone received seven nominations during The Recording Academy’s official reveal in November before picking up an eighth on December 20 for Best Recording Package. According to Billboard, the 29-year-old is now credited as an art director for his 2024 album F-1 Trillion, making him eligible in the category.

The singer, whose real name is Austin Post, is now tied with Charli XCX for the second-most nominations of any artist this year. Beyoncé has the most with 11.

Malone has been up for 10 previous Grammys but has never won. His prominence as a 2025 Grammy nominee year is largely due to F-1 Trillion, which is also competing for Best Country Album. The project includes his hit collaboration “I Had Some Help” with country star Morgan Wallen that earned nods for Best Country Song and Best Country Duo/Group Performance.

“Fortnight,” his single with Taylor Swift, earned three nominations: Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Music Video. Finally, Malone and Beyoncé could win Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for their duet on “Levii’s Jeans” from her latest album, Cowboy Carter.

The 67th Grammy Awards air February 2 at 8 p.m. E.T. on CBS and will stream on Paramount+.

Where Is Post Malone From?

Post Malone was born Austin Richard Post on July 4, 1995, in Syracuse, New York. His father is Rich Post, and his mother is Nicole Frazier Lake. Austin’s parents separated during his childhood, and he was raised primarily by his father and stepmother, Jodie.

According to Syracuse.com, Rich worked as a wedding DJ in central New York and introduced his son to a variety of music, including hard rock bands like AC/DC, Mötley Crüe, and Twisted Sister. When Austin was around 9 or 10 years old, he moved with his family to Grapevine, Texas, after Rich accepted an operations job with the Dallas Cowboys NFL team.

Austin became interested in making his own music after playing the video game Guitar Hero and winning his eighth grade talent show with a metalcore cover of “Umbrella” by Rihanna. He chose his now ubiquitous stage name, Post Malone, when he was around 14 or 15 after typing his legal name into an internet rap name generator. “There’s a bunch of ’em actually, and I ran my name through a whole s—load ’cause I was like, I wanted something cool like Wiz Khalifa,” he explained to Esquire in October 2023. “And then I thought I was really cool, so I had like a hat made for myself and stuff.”

Austin attended Grapevine High School, where he shared his first hip-hop mixtape titled Young and After Them Riches with his classmates. After graduating in 2013, he attended Tarrant County College in Texas but dropped out six months later because he “wasn’t feeling the vibe.” He moved to Los Angeles at age 18 with aspirations of becoming a music star.

Music Career

Until he could make enough money to afford his own place, Post Malone lived in a rented house in the Encino neighborhood of Los Angeles with his friend Jason Probst, a YouTuber known for uploading Minecraft gaming videos.

According to Rolling Stone, Malone talked his way into free access at a nearby recording studio and started working on music with producer FKi 1st. In 2015, he released his debut single “White Iverson” on the streaming service SoundCloud. “White Iverson” later became the lead single off his first studio album, Stoney. The song received endorsements from notable rappers like Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller and eventually spent 30 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 14.

Off the success of the song, Malone opened for Justin Bieber on his Purpose World Tour and signed with Republic Records ahead of Stoney’s 2016 release. Now on a star-making trajectory, the singer soon released another project that made him one of the biggest names in music.

Post Malone’s 2018 album resulted in the musician’s first Grammy nominations.

In 2017, Post Malone announced he was working on his sophomore studio album, beerbongs & bentleys. That September, he shared its first single “Rockstar,” featuring 21 Savage. The song quickly became his biggest hit, rising to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 by mid-October. The next single off the album, “Psycho” with Ty Dolla $ign, debuted at No. 2 in March 2018 and similarly climbed to the top spot in June.

Beerbongs & bentleys earned Malone four Grammy Award nominations in 2018, including Album of the Year and Record of the Year for “Rockstar.” By April 2021, the multiplatinum album had sold the equivalent of 5 million copies.

Malone continued to churn out hits with his next album Hollywood’s Bleeding (2019), including the No. 1 singles “Sunflower” and “Circles.” The former, featured on the soundtrack to the 2018 animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, became the first song to receive “double-diamond” certification. Despite his massive success, Malone insisted his mindset wouldn’t change for future projects. “I’m not trying to make hit records. I’m just trying to make something that I love,” he said.

Malone released two more studio albums in the forthcoming years: Twelve Carat Toothache in 2022 and the eponymous Austin in 2023.

F-1 Trillion Album and Tour

Not slowing down after the release of Austin, Post Malone has had an even bigger year in 2024. It started in February with a performance of “America the Beautiful” at Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas.

Later in June, the singer announced the forthcoming release of his sixth studio album, F-1 Trillion, and an accompanying a 21-city stadium tour. Arriving in mid-August, the album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and charted all 18 songs, including the lead single “I Had Some Help,” his collaboration with Morgan Wallen. Other contributors to the country-heavy album included Blake Shelton, Brad Paisley, Lainey Wilson, and Jelly Roll. F-1 Trillion is nominated for Best Country Album at the 2025 Grammys, one of Malone’s eight nods for the year.

Post Malone and Taylor Swift’s song “Fornight” won five MTV Video Music Awards at the 2024 ceremony.

Since making his Billboard Hot 100 debut in 2015 with “White Iverson,” Post Malone has had a total of 95 tracks appear on the chart. Of those, 13 songs have charted in the top 10 and six have reached the top spot. His No. 1 hits are:

  • “Rockstar,” featuring 21 Savage (2017)
  • “Psycho,” featuring Ty Dolla $ign (2018)
  • “Sunflower,” with Swae Lee (2018)
  • “Circles” (2019)
  • “Fortnight,” a collaboration with Taylor Swift (2024)
  • “I Had Some Help,” featuring Morgan Wallen (2024)

“Fortnight” served as the lead single from Swift’s 2024 album The Tortured Poets Department, and Malone also appeared in the accompanying music video. The track won Best Collaboration at the MTV Video Music Awards in September 2024. “There is a very clear reason why Post Malone is everyone in music’s favorite person to collaborate with,” Swift said during the VMAs. “It is because you are so ridiculously talented. You’re the most down-to-earth person.” The hit is also nominated for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Music Video at the 2025 Grammy Awards.

An even bigger hit was “I Had Some Help,” his joint project with Morgan Wallen. In July 2024, the song became only the second ever to reach No. 1 on both the Pop Airplay and Country Airplay charts, joining Swift’s “Love Story.” The track also topped Billboard’s 2024 Songs of the Summer chart for all 14 weeks it spanned. It, too, earned Grammy nominations for Best Country Song and Best Country Duo/Group Performance.

Fiancée and Daughter

During an August 2023 appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Post Malone revealed he has been engaged to his fiancée since 2021. He hasn’t shared her identity publicly.

In May 2022, the singer and his fiancée had their first child, a daughter whose name also has yet to be shared. However, the singer does have her initials, DDP, tattooed on his forehead. The song “Yours” from his 2024 F-1 Trillion album is inspired by his daughter and thoughts about her future wedding. “I’ll never forget her. If you heard her cry, you’ll never forget her, either!,” he told CBS News. “It changes you in the best way ever. And the most beautiful thing is, she has a beautiful mom.”

In an effort to keep himself and his family out of the spotlight, Malone owns a nearly 13,000-square-foot mansion outside of Salt Lake City. The singer moved to the Cottonwood Heights, Utah, property in 2019 and still resides there as of December 2023. He has called the city an “oasis” away from the hustle of Los Angeles.

Prior to his current relationship, Malone had a three-year romance with Ashlen Diaz from 2015 through 2018.

Is Post Malone Sober?

Post Malone has credited his fiancée and daughter for inspiring him to curb his dependence on alcohol. Although not completely sober, he said he has become “responsible” with his drinking.

He detailed his struggles during a June 2022 appearance on The Howard Stern Show. “It was to a really, really, really rough point, and I couldn’t get up off the floor for weeks,” he told Stern. “I never got help with it. I just have super beautiful people around me, and I met a really beautiful person that made me feel like a human being.”

A year later, he said on the Call Her Daddy podcast that one of his biggest fears was “not being able to be there” for his infant daughter. “That’s why I tried to slow down on drinking, to take better care of my body,” he said, according to People.

A combined 12 carats in diamonds, the teeth are fully functional and cost around $1.6 million according to Dr. Thomas Connelly, the singer’s dentist.
