Shōgun showed out at the 2024 Emmys. The FX historical drama collected 18 trophies—the most for any TV show in a single season—between Sunday’s 76th awards ceremony and the Creative Arts Emmys one week earlier.

The hit show, set in feudal Japan, became the first non-English language show to win Outstanding Drama Series, as stars 63-year-old Hiroyuki Sanada and 32-year-old Anna Sawai became the first Japanese actors to win Emmy Awards for best lead actor and actress in a drama series. Shōgun is adapted from a James Clavell novel that draws from a real friendship between a Japanese rule and an English samurai.

Another history maker was Liza Colón-Zayas, who plays chef Tina on FX’s The Bear. The Bronx native became the first Latina to win the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, fittingly on the first day of Hispanic Heritage Month. “To all the Latinas who are looking at me, keep believing,” she said in her acceptance speech. The award marked one of 11 for The Bear, which set a new single-season trophy record for a comedy even as it lost the top prize, Outstanding Comedy Series, to HBO’s Hacks.

Below are the 2024 Emmy winners and nominees in the major acting, directing, writing, and overall series categories.
