Early Life

Savannah Clark Guthrie was born on December 27, 1971, in Melbourne, Australia, where her father Charles was stationed for his job as a mining engineer. Her family returned to the United States when she was 2 years old. The youngest of three children, Guthrie, who was named after her great-great-grandmother, grew up in Tucson, Arizona with her older brother Camron and sister Annie. There, she learned to play tennis and the piano as a child.

When Guthrie was 16, her father passed away, and her mother, Nancy a stay-at-home mom, returned to work to support her family, taking a job as a clerk at the University of Arizona. She later said that her mom was her biggest inspiration.

After high school, Guthrie attended the University of Arizona. She was initially unsure of what to study, and her mother suggested taking classes in journalism. While in school, Guthrie landed a job at a local public television station. Guthrie graduated with a degree in journalism in 1993 and took a job at KTVM, an NBC affiliate station in Butte, Montana. Just 10 days after she started, however, the newsroom was shut down.

Journalism and Law Career

Guthrie soon moved to Columbia, Missouri, where she worked at ABC affiliate KMIZ for two years before she was offered a position with KVOA, another NBC affiliate, in her hometown of Tucson in 1995.

Five years later, Guthrie headed east to another NBC affiliate, WRC-TV, in Washington, D.C., where she covered the September 11, 2001, attacks on the Pentagon and anthrax mailings. While working as a freelance reporter, she was also earning a law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center. She graduated, magna cum laude, in 2002, and received the highest score on the Arizona bar exam.

From 2002 to 2003, Guthrie practiced law with Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer and Feld, and specialized in white-collar criminal defense. She returned to TV journalism in 2004, as a legal affairs correspondent for Court TV.

In 2007, Guthrie returned to NBC as a legal correspondent, before becoming the network's White House correspondent from 2008 to 2011. She covered the 2008 presidential election, and most notably traveled with the Sarah Palin campaign. Guthrie was part of the team that ultimately won an Emmy for their coverage on election night. In 2010 and 2011, she also co-anchored The Daily Rundown on MSNBC.

In June 2011, Guthrie joined the Today show as co-host of the third hour, as well as chief legal correspondent. In addition to interviewing subjects such as Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump and Meryl Streep, she courted controversy after an interview where she compared breastfeeding to going to the bathroom.

One year later, in July 2012, Guthrie became co-anchor of Today, replacing Ann Curry. On her first day, her co-anchor, Matt Lauer, gave her an enthusiastic welcome, and told the audience that she had a great attitude and “weird” sense of humor.

In November 29, 2017, with fellow Today personality Hoda Kotb by her side, Guthrie broke the news to viewers that Lauer had been fired over allegations of sexual misconduct. Audiences seemed to respond well to the subsequent pairing of Guthrie and Kotb, propelling Today's ratings past those of ABC's Good Morning America over a two-week period for the first time in a year.

The following March, Guthrie made headlines when a microphone caught her swearing before returning from a commercial break. The host seemed to take it in stride, tweeting, “Check, check - is this thing on?” and adding, “guess it’s good thing I don’t wear a mic all day.”

In October 2020, Guthrie hosted a town hall with President Donald Trump, during which she fact-checked his remarks in real time.

Mother’s Disappearance

On February 1, 2026, Guthrie's 84-year-old mother Nancy was reporting missing from her home in Tucson, Arizona after she didn’t to show up to church. Nancy, with whom Savannah has a close relationship, is believed to have been abducted in her sleep. Authorities found dried blood and signs of forced entry at her house and are looking into a potential ransom note.

To aid the investigation, Savannah and her two siblings posted a video message speaking directly to Nancy and a possible kidnapper. “Everyone is looking for you, Mommy, everywhere,” she said. “We will not rest. Your children will not rest until we are together again.”

Guthrie is married to media consultant Michael Feldman. She met Feldman after going to his birthday party with a mutual friend in 2008, but they didn't start dating until late 2009. Four years later, the couple got engaged during a trip to Turks and Caicos in May 2013.

Guthrie and Feldman tied the knot in a ceremony in Arizona in March 2014. At the time, she was already pregnant with their first child, a daughter named Vale, who was born that August. In June 2016, Guthrie announced that she was pregnant again, and that she would not attend the Summer Olympics in Rio over concerns about the Zika virus, which had been linked to severe birth defects. The pair welcomed their second child, a son named Charles “Charley,” in December 2016.

Guthrie was previously married to journalist Mark Orchard. The two met while covering the Michael Jackson child molestation trial in 2005. They wed that December before divorcing in January 2009.

Net Worth

As of February 2026, Guthrie has an estimated net worth of $40 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
