Everyone has their niche hobbies—and for Austin Butler, that just may be collecting vintage Carhartt jackets. New Yorkers have spotted the Bikeriders actor on several occasions with these rare finds on his back—the most recent being the night of September 21.
That evening, Butler was caught by an entourage of flashing lights as he stepped out of a vehicle near the Upper West Side. He was seen wearing a casual black uniform that consisted of a trucker hat, straight-fit jeans, and a pair of lace-up boots. Complementing it all was his Carhartt jacket—which, like his boots, had some scuff marks. (It’s clearly the look he’s going for, adding to the vintage aesthetic of it all.)
The Oscar nominee proved two things with this brief appearance. First: Fall fashion is officially in full effect. (Though that might have already been a given.) He also showed that all it really takes to look like a “cool guy” in autumn is a dark, slightly beaten-up Carhartt jacket.
What’s particularly neat about the specific Carhartt piece Butler sports is its contrasting brown collar. This detail confirms that this is a vintage piece since a jacket with this exact look is not available on Carhartt’s official website or other supporting retailers.
This isn’t the first time he’s worn a discontinued item from the brand. Last December, Butler was seen wearing another vintage black Carhartt jacket similar to the one above with a darker collar. Okay, so he has a type. (When it comes to jackets, that is.)
As rare as those particular finds were, Carhartt still does have men’s black jackets in stock. Plus, there are also plenty of similar-looking styles available elsewhere. So, if you’re looking to go incognito like Butler, you can count on a black-and-grazed jacket to do the trick.
