If there is one thing we love about the CMA’s — aside from the talented acts —is the looks. As shown on her Instagram feed, Kelsea Ballerini served elegance and class at the 2023 awards while stepping out with actor boyfriend, Chase Stokes. As most people swooned over the adorable duo, and rightfully so, we were fixated on the country singer's effortless hairstyle. The sleek and slightly curled hairdo had not one piece of frizz in sight. How did she do it?!
Celebrity hairstylist Peter Lux used a secret weapon: a really good hairspray — Pantene Flexible Hold Hairspray. And get this — it’s only $5.94 on Amazon for Prime members and available in an Aloe scent or unscented.
Lux first shampooed and conditioned Ballerini's hair in order to regain moisture — allowing him to style it properly. Then he opted for a heat protectant spray in order to protect the bulk of the hair (which, if you don’t use when applying heat, you most definitely should). That’s when the magic happens — a blow dry with a natural bristle brush paired with a volumizing mousse. Once Ballerini’s low side part was formed and the curling iron did its job, Lux applied the Pantene Flexible Hold Hairspray.
The Pantene hairspray advertises a firm hold with no alcohol (meaning you won’t get that stiff and crunchy hair feel that most women dread when styling their hair). Like many hairspray aims to achieve, this hairspray is supposed to block out humidity for soft and shiny hair. We are no hair experts, but we’d say that Ballerini’s locks provide some pretty convincing evidence.
To achieve Ballerini’s old Hollywood look, generously spray the product after curling, brush out the hair with a large cushion brush, and apply some hairspray to the flyaways. Lux utilized hair clips throughout the process to manage each section of hair accordingly. Now, we just need the secret to Stoke’s tamed curly hair, and we will have all the hairstyle tools for success.
