Carrie Underwood is keeping it real on the American Idol red carpet. As fans are probably well aware, the country singer has always been a down-to-earth queen, and she reminded everyone of that once again during a candid moment ahead of one of the competition show’s live episodes.

While chatting with Access Hollywood, Underwood was asked whether she’d ever consider heading into space, following in the footsteps of former Idol judge Katy Perry, who recently made headlines for completing a civilian spaceflight experience on Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin rocket on April 15.

The 42-year-old country star didn’t miss a beat with her answer.

“The day I go to space will be when the good Lord decides my time on Earth here is done and he takes me home,” she laughed. “So, that will be the day I leave this Earth.”

The refreshingly blunt answer immediately struck a chord with fans, many of whom took to the video’s comment section to leave their own thoughts. “Carrie said it best” and “Carrie’s answer was perfect!!! yassss queen!” were just a few of the enthusiastic replies.

While Perry’s zero-gravity adventure made headlines with mixed reactions, Underwood’s no-nonsense take on the matter made for a hilarious moment and a reminder that not everyone dreams of leaving our stratosphere. Even fellow judge Lionel Richie had a funny response to the same question on whether he’d blast off into the cosmos.

“My first impression was, ‘Get out the capsule,’” Richie said. “It’s not that anything was going to go wrong. It’s just that I don’t like the phrase, ‘Never happened before.’” He then joked that he’s already having issues navigating Earth and gravity as it is and that’s enough of an adventure for him.

With moments like these, it’s not hard to see why viewers keeping tuning into American Idol week after week.
