Taylor Swift made a virtual appearance at the iHeartRadio Music Awards on Monday night, appearing via video to accept the award for Tour of the Century. Naturally, fans are now speculating her understated outfit included a major easter egg about her next career move.
The “Anti-Hero” singer kept things pretty simple, pairing a plaid skirt and black sweater with her signature red lip. But she was also wearing a gold necklace featuring a casual snake eating its own tail, which obviously has everyone thinking Reputation (Taylor’s Version) is around the corner.
I mean, it seems like a pretty overt reference to the album, but then again... we’ve been burned before. So, so, many times. Swift’s outfits have honestly been pretty RepTV coded for a while now...
And let’s not forget that she also teased the album during her Time magazine Person of the Year Instagram caption forever ago, using a bunch of of all-caps SSssSssss:
As a reminder, Swift told Time during her Person of the Year interview that Reputation (Taylor’s Version) would be “fire” and described it as “a goth-punk moment of female rage at being gaslit by an entire social structure. I think a lot of people see it and they’re just like, sick snakes and strobe lights.”
She said of her re-recordings in general, “I’m collecting horcruxes. I’m collecting infinity stones. Gandalf’s voice is in my head every time I put out a new one. For me, it is a movie now.”
Anyway, counting down the days for this album drop and listening to “thank you Aimee” until then.
