In February 2025, a double homicide rocked the small community of Tyus, in Carroll County, Georgia. Kristin Brock, 41, and James Brock, 45, were found dead in their bed by their then-5-year-old daughter. Kristin’s daughter, Sarah Grace Patrick, called 911. Investigators discovered the Brocks had been killed by apparent gunshot wounds.
In the months that followed, investigators searched for the killer, and the Brocks’ loved ones offered a $5,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest. Patrick took to social media to pay tribute to her parents and ask for support.
But by July, Patrick was arrested and accused of killing her mother and stepfather.
Patrick, now 18, is being tried as an adult on eight charges including felony murder and aggravated assault. Here’s everything we know about Patrick’s background, the alleged murders, and what to expect during the trial.
Who Is Sarah Grace Patrick?
Patrick, now 18, was 16 at the time she allegedly shot and killed her parents. There’s not much public information on the Georgia teen, but friends and her pastor testified on her behalf during her bond hearings, stating she regularly attended church and was a hardworking student.
“She actually worked really hard and graduated a year early,” Kaitlin O’Keefe, a friend of her dad’s, said, according to Newsweek.
Patrick attended Catalyst Church in Carrollton, Georgia, and Ben Bonner, lead pastor, testified she attended church regularly and was “eager to grow in her faith and get involved.” He added she has “even called from jail multiple times.”
At Patrick’s bond hearing, one of her friends testified she was not allowed to go over to her house, but she would often pick Patrick up and return to her home and the two would play with her son and watch movies. She added she had no concerns Patrick was a flight risk.
During bond hearings, supporters wore “I Stand with Sarah” T-shirts.
Why Is Sarah Grace Patrick Accused of Killing Her Parents?
Kristin Brock, Patrick’s mother, and James Brock, her stepfather, were found shot to death in their bed on February 20, 2025. The couple’s then-5-year-old daughter, Patrick’s half sister, found the bodies. Deputies said Patrick placed the 911 call, according to Atlanta News First. There was no evidence of forced entry, but one door had been left ajar, according to authorities. The murder weapon has not been recovered.
Patrick was arrested on July 8, 2025, when she turned herself in after being notified of her arrest warrants. Her digital footprint led to her arrest, according to Fox 5 Atlanta. However, a motive is not clear.
“We don’t know what goes through the mind of a child who wants to harm their parents,” Ashley Hulsey, Carroll County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, said during a news conference. “It is a very horrific and sad case.”
She is being held without bond in the Carroll County Jail while she awaits trial. Requests for bond have been denied twice by Judge Dustin Hightower. In January, she was denied bond as prosecutors worried she may be a flight risk, stating concerns she has family outside Georgia, increasing the chances she could leave the state, according to Fox 5 Atlanta. They also worry if released, she may intimidate or manipulate witnesses. And the Brock family also told the judge the potential for her release caused them to fear for their safety.
“This family is sincerely afraid,” said prosecutor Michael Parrish.
However, some of Patrick’s family and friends believe she is not a threat.
“It’s all speculative stuff ... Nothing puts the gun in her hand. They don’t have the gun,” her grandfather, Dennis Nolan, told Fox 5 Atlanta.
What Has Sarah Grace Patrick Said About the Case?
Patrick posted loving tributes to her parents on TikTok shortly after their murders. “But at night time when there’s nothing to do and the house is empty, I’d always think about how much I needed them,” she said in a video posted to an account investigators linked to Patrick. She captioned another post “Please send prayers for healing,” but ended the video saying “I should prob delete later,” according to 11Alive.
Before her arrest, Patrick allegedly also reached out to TikTok influencers to try to bring attention to the murders, according to People. A true-crime blogger who runs the TikTok account “Allegedly Reportedly,” said someone with the username Sarah Grace sent her a message urging her to look up the case. The user also said that news coverage of the crime would be a “really big hit,” and responded to comments on a video made by Allegedly Reportedly about the crime.
Another TikTok user, “shoelover99,” who makes content about grieving her murdered son and has more than 12 million followers, also alleged “Sarah Grace” reached out to her. The user messaged, “Momma tot I need a momma bad [right now] im going through it.”
Police haven’t confirmed if the user who messaged these influencers is the suspect.
When Is Sarah Grace Patrick’s Trial?
Though the trial was originally scheduled to begin January 5, there have been several delays. Patrick’s trial is currently scheduled to begin August 3. Patrick’s new attorney, Sean Hoover, who took over the case in February, has asked for the trial to be further delayed.
“More needs to be done so I can adequately protect Ms. Patrick’s interests moving forward,” Hoover said during pretrial arguments. However, the judge ruled the trial will proceed as scheduled, family members told 11Alive.
Patrick is indicted on eight counts: two counts of malice murder, two counts of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and two weapons charges. She has pleaded not guilty.
