Catherine of Aragon was the first wife of King Henry VIII of England. As a Spanish princess, Catherine was originally wed to Henry's brother, Arthur. After Arthur's death, she wed Henry and birthed six children. All of them died except a daughter. Pope Clement VII refused Henry's request for an annulment, breaking Henry's relationship with Rome and leading to the Protestant Reformation.
