Early Life and Career

Thomas Stanley Holland was born on June 1, 1996, in Kingston-upon-Thames, England. Born into an artistic family, his mother, Nicola, is a photographer, and his father, Dominic, is a stand-up comedian and author. The oldest of four boys, Holland grew up in a tight-knit household with brothers Sam, Harry, and Patrick.

At the age of 9, he began attending hip-hop dance classes at the Nifty Feet Dance Studio, whose owner, Lynne Page, helped choreograph the hit movie Billy Elliot (2000). After Holland's class performed at the 2006 Richmond Dance Festival, Page was convinced to send her pupil to audition for Billy Elliot the Musical.

With no formal training in ballet or drama, Holland failed to impress most of the talent evaluators at the audition. However, he did impress Billy Elliot director Stephen Daldry, who loved Holland's natural performing ability and stage presence.

Following two years of ballet lessons, Holland debuted with the West End production in June 2008 as Billy's best friend, Michael. He soon slid into the starring role, and wowed audiences with his acrobatic ability until his final performance in May 2010.

Throughout his childhood, Holland attended Donhead Preparatory School and Wimbledon College before finishing his schooling at the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology.

Movies and TV Shows

Breakout Role in The Impossible

Not long after hanging up his dance shoes for Billy Elliot, Holland was tapped to voice the character of Sho for the British version of the animated The Secret World of Arrietty (2010). However, it was his performance in The Impossible (2012) that firmly established him as one of the industry's promising young talents. Based on a true account of the Indian Ocean tsunami of 2004, Holland shined as an adolescent who tends to his injured mother (Naomi Watts) as he searches for his missing father (Ewan McGregor), garnering an array of award nominations. Holland was 13 when he tried out for the role as the eldest son.

Spider-Man Franchise

Following a turn in the drama How I Live Now (2013), Holland landed a supporting part in the 2015 BBC historical miniseries Wolf Hall. Shortly afterward, his path to global stardom was launched with the announcement that he would take over the role of Peter Parker for the latest reboot of Spider-Man. Unlike his predecessors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, who were in their mid-to-late 20s when tapped for Spidey, the 19-year-old Holland was much closer in age to Peter Parker's troubled high school student turned superhero.

In the spring of 2016, Holland made his debut as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War. Despite limited screen time, he drew strong reviews for his version of the iconic web slinger, paving the way for his acclaimed performance in 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming. Holland then reprised his superhero role in the ensemble blockbusters Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019), before adding the next chapters to his character's story with Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021). He will return for Spider-Man: Brand New Day in July 2026.

In the Heart of the Sea and The Lost City of Z

Meanwhile, Holland had other acting obligations to fulfill. The epic In the Heart of the Sea (2015) was a box-office flop, but it provided another showcase for the burgeoning star, as well as the chance to test his mettle amid difficult shooting conditions. He then featured prominently in 2016's Edge of Winter and The Lost City of Z, before starring in the medieval action drama Pilgrimage (2017).

The Devil All the Time and Cherry

Holland leant his voice to the animated films Spies in Disguise (2019) and Pixar's Onward (2020) before starring in the 2020 psychological thriller The Devil All The Time, alongside Robert Pattinson. In 2021, he appeared in Chaos Walking, about a dystopian world without women, and was praised for his performance in Cherry, in which he played an Army medic with PTSD.

Uncharted and The Crowded Room

Holland next starred in the video game adaptation Uncharted in 2022, which proved to be a commercial success. His most recent role was in the Apple TV series The Crowded Room, in which he played a young man who gets arrested for his involvement in a shooting in 1970s New York City. In addition to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Holland is set to portray Telemachus in an adaptation Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey in July 2026.

Holland is engaged to actor and singer Zendaya. The couple were first romantically linked in 2017 after meeting on the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming, but they didn’t confirm their relationship until July 2021 when they were spotted kissing. In January 2025, TMZ confirmed that Holland and Zendaya had gotten engaged over the Christmas holiday in December 2024.

In early 2026, rumors began circulating that the pair had already secretly married, but the couple has yet to confirm the speculation.

Sobriety

Holland has been sober since January 2022. He decided to quit drinking alcohol after finding it difficult to complete the popular “Dry January” challenge. “All I could think about was having a drink,” he recalled on the podcast On Purpose with Jay Shetty. “It just really scared me. I just was like, ‘Wow, maybe. Maybe I have a little bit of an alcohol thing’. So I sort of decided to punish myself and say, ‘I’ll do February as well. I’ll do two months off.’” After continuing to struggle, he extended the challenge to June, which is when he made the decision to give up alcohol for good.

As Holland embraced a sober lifestyle, however, he grew frustrated with the lack of quality non-alcoholic beer options, and eventually co-founded the NA beer brand BERO in October 2024.

Net Worth

As of March 2026, Holland has an estimated net worth of $25 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
