Yitzhak Zuckerman Biography

Civil Rights Activist, Folk Hero (c. 1915–1981)
Yitzhak Zuckerman was a hero of Jewish resistance to the Nazis in WWII and one of the few survivors of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.


Perceiving the full scope of Nazi plans, Yitzhak Zuckerman and other resistance leaders found the determination to fight and to risk their lives. He was active in a federation of young Zionist organizations and favored armed resistance to Nazi depredations, culminating in the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. At war's end, he organized underground transportation for Jewish refugees from Europe to Palestine.
