Tom Daschle Biography

U.S. Representative (1947–)
Tom Daschle is a former Congressman who served as both minority and majority Senate leader for the Democratic Party.


Born on December 9, 1947, in Aberdeen, South Dakota, Tom Daschle served in the military before winning a seat in the House of Representatives as a Democrat. He was later elected to the Senate and served as minority and majority leader. Though nominated for a cabinet position by President Barack Obama, Daschle withdrew due to financial controversy. He also co-founded the Bipartisan Policy Center.
