Thomas Middleton was born in 1580 in London, England. After attending Queen's College, Oxford, Middleton attempted to make his name as a poet and pamphleteer. He later became a dramatist, adept at portraying both comedy and tragedy. Middleton was frequently commissioned to write pageants and civic entertainments. His most successful plays include A Game at Chess, Women Beware Women and The Honest Whore. He died in 1627.
