Sidney Lumet was an award-winning stage director and filmmaker known for works like 12 Angry Men and Network.


Born on June 25, 1924, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Sidney Lumet worked in theater as a child actor and director before turning to film, helming projects in the 1950s and '60s like 12 Angry Men and Long Day's Journey Into Night. Lumet continued with an eclectic body of work that included Serpico, Network, Equus, The Wiz and The Verdict. An honorary Academy Award recipient, Lumet died on April 9, 2011.
