Hungarian combat photographer Robert Capa is best known for redefining wartime photojournalism by insisting working in trenches, in the midst of combat.


Hungarian combat photographer Robert Capa redefined wartime journalism by joining soldiers in the trenches and documenting their battle in grim, close-up detail. His first assignment was in the Spanish Civil War. He went on to cover World War II. The 1948 Arab-Israeli War and the First Indochina War. He co-founded Magnum Photos with Henri Cartier-Bresson. He died by stepping on a landmine.
