Rene Levesque Biography

Canadian reporter René Lévesque is best known for being the first Quebec politician since Confederation to attempt to negotiate political separation for Quebec.


Canadian reporter René Lévesque served as a war correspondent in Korea in the late 50's before being elected to the Quebec national Assembly in 1960. He founded the the left-wing Parti Québécois party whose primary aim was the political independence of Quebec. The plan was rejected in a popular vote in 1980 but Lévesque still maintained his personal popularity.
