Philip V was the King of Spain from 1700 - 1724 during which time he helped Spain regain it's former influence in international affairs. He had the unique distinction of reigning twice, abdicating the throne briefly to his short-lived son, Louis I. Although most scholarship describes Philip as weak-willed and indolent, recent writing suggests that he suffered from a manic-depressive disorder.
