American folk singer Phil Ochs is best remembered for the protest songs he wrote in the 1960's on war and civil rights. Ochs performed at numerous political events, including civil rights rallies and organized labor events. His mental and physical health declined in the 1970's and he took his own life in 1976 at age 35. Ochs continues to influence musicians today with his haunting voice.
