British scholar and physician Peter Mark Roget was best known for publishing Roget's Thesaurus in 1852 and helping to found the University of London.


British scholar and physician Peter Mark Roget loved list-making from a young age, perhaps using it as a mechanism to escape from an unhappy childhood. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh before he retired to begin preparations for the publication of the Thesaurus of English Words and Phrases, now known as Roget's Thesaurus, the popular and comprehensive classification of synonyms.
