British politician Peter Mandelson served in a number of cabinet positions under both Tony Blair and Gordon Brown and as a European Commissioner. His work as a television producer on Weekend World gave him perspective to help with the re-branding of the Labour Party as "New Labour," which led to its landslide victory in the 1997 general election. He was a long time ally and adviser to Tony Blair.
