Orlando Hernández fled Cuba for America after being banned from baseball in 1997. He signed with the New York Yankees and helped them win three World Series.


Orlando Hernández was born on October 11, 1965, in Villa Clara, Cuba. His father, Arnaldo Hernández, was a pitcher in the Cuban leagues. Orlando followed in his footsteps and in 1992 was on the gold-medal winning Olympic team. In 1997, he fled Cuba and joined the New York Yankees. He helped them win three World Series and was named MVP in 1999. He has since played for the White Socks and the Mets.
