Oliver Fisher Winchester operated the Winchester Repeating Arms Co., which provided rifles and ammunition used in the Civil War and by American settlers.


Oliver Fisher Winchester was born in Boston, Massachusetts on November 30, 1810. Winchester went into business to make dress shirts, but in 1857 purchased the Volcanic Repeating Arms Co. The company became Winchester Repeating Arms Co. and he produced rifles used in the Civil War and by American settlers in the West. He died on December 11, 1880.
