Marcus Claudius Marcellus is best known as the Roman general that captured Syracuse.


Marcus Claudius Marcellus was born 268 BC in the Roman Empire. Marcellus, the Roman general, captured Syracuse in the Second Punic War. Most of his exploits were exaggerated by the historian Livy, but he still won the spolia opima ("spoils of honor").
