Actress Lark Voorhies was born on March 25, 1974, in Nashville, Tennessee. After her parents' marriage broke up when she was 11 months old, Voorhies was raised by her mother. She grew up in Pasadena, California.
Though she was a shy child, Voorhies enjoyed performing. Her breakthrough came when she was cast as Lisa Turtle, a rich, shopaholic teenager, on the 1987 sitcom Good Morning, Miss Bliss. She continued in the same role when the program was revamped to become Saved by the Bell, which aired from 1989 to 1993.
Voorhies's portrayal of Lisa Turtle resulted in her receiving five Youth in Film Award nominations, starting from the time the character first appeared on Good Morning, Miss Bliss. She won two times. She reprised the role several times after Saved by the Bell ended, including on the spin-offs Saved by the Bell: The College Years and Saved by the Bell — Wedding in Las Vegas. Voorhies also revisited the character on a 2008 episode of Robot Chicken.
After Saved by the Bell, Voorhies starred on the daytime soap operas Days of Our Lives and The Bold and the Beautiful, and in the 2001 film How High. She also appeared in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and In the House. Voorhies has been featured in music videos for artists such as Dru Hill and Boyz II Men, and in television commercials.
Voorhies has denied ever dating Mark-Paul Gosselaar, her Saved by the Bell co-star. She was once engaged to actor Martin Lawrence, and is divorced from Miguel Coleman.
In 2012, after Voorhies made a disconcerting appearance in a video interview, her mother told People magazine that Voorhies had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Voorhies herself denied that she was ill. Instead, she stated that her focus remains on her production company, her music and her self-published books.
