Kiran Desai is an author. Her second novel, The Inheritance of Loss, was short-listed for the Orange Broadband Prize in 2007, a year after it was published.


Kiran Desai was born Sept. 3, 1971 in New Delhi, India. One of her early stories appeared in the collection Mirrorwork (1997). She left Columbia University for several years to write her first novel, Hullabaloo in the Guava Orchard (1998). It received a 1998 Betty Trask Prize from the British Society of Authors. After more than seven years of work, she published The Inheritance of Loss.
