John Maynard Keynes was born June 5, 1883 in Cambridge, England. Although the tone of his major writings in the 1920s was occasionally skeptical, he did not directly challenge the conventional wisdom of the period that favored laissez-faire. But his opinions did foreshadow the theoretical revolution he triggered in the 1930s with his work, The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money.
