James Nachtwey is an American photographer born on March 14, 1948 in Syracuse, New York. Influenced by images of the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights Movement, Nachtwey started a career in photography in 1976. Known for his work on documenting wars, civil strife and other social conflicts, he worked for Time magazine in the 1980s. The multi-honored photographer was one of the founding members of the photo agency VII which opened in 2001. Nachtwey’s solo exhibitions have appeared in New York, Europe and many other regions across the globe.
