Isabel Perón is a former president of Argentina, and the first non-royal female head of state in the Western Hemisphere. She was the wife of another former president, Juan Perón. During her husband's third term, she served as his vice president, and was made president shortly after he died in office in 1974. In 2007, she was arrested for allowing officers to commit human rights abuses.
