Helen Levitt was born on August 31, 1913, in Brooklyn, New York, and pursued a career in photography, with some of her earlier images showcased by Fortune magazine and the Museum of Modern Art. She was known for her captures of children and urban street life and worked as a film director on documentaries like The Quiet One. She was also one of the first photographers to work with color. Levitt died on March 29, 2009, in New York, New York.
