Astronomer Giovanni Domenico Cassini made a number of important discoveries in the 17th century, including four or Saturn's moons.


Born in Italy in 1625, astronomer Giovanni Domenico Cassini began studying rotational periods of planets in Italy before moving to France at the invitation of King Louis XIV. Continuing his work there, he made a number of important discoveries including four or Saturn's moons and the makeup of Saturn's rings.
