Dummer Gene Krupa, who played with Benny Goodman in the 1930s, was known for his extended solos. His style inspired swing era music.


Gene Krupa was born on January 15, 1909 in Chicago, Illinois. He joined Benny Goodman’s big band in 1935 and was known as the best drummer of his time. His solos were famous and his style inspired swing era drummers. In 1938, he formed his own band with Roy Eldridge and Anita O’Day.
