King, Duke (c. 1286–1330)
Duke of Austria Frederick III fought rival Louis of Bavaria for the German throne for eight years. Louis granted Frederick control of Austria in 1326.

Born in 1286, Frederick III was the second son of German king Albert I. His father was murdered in 1398 and Frederick became the duke of Austria. Henry VII became king, but his death in 1313 led to a double election. Frederick III was elected and so was Louis IV of Bavaria. They battled for eight years.
