King (1657–1713)
Frederick I was the first king of Prussia. He ruled from 1701 to 1713 and helped establish Prussia’s cultural significance in Europe.


Frederick I was born on July 11, 1657, in Königsberg, Prussia (now Kaliningrad, Russia). He became the first king of Prussia in 1701 after signing a treaty with Austria. He served for 13 years and remained loyal to Austria during the War of the Spanish Succession. The University of Halle was founded under his rule, expanding Prussia’s cultural significance. He died in 1713.
