Fielding Yost Biography

Coach (1871–1946)
American collegiate football coach Fielding Yost was known for his quick plays. While coaching at the University of Michigan, he won 164 games.


Fielding Yost was born on April 30, 1871, in Fairview, West Virginia. He attended Ohio Normal University where he learned to play football and later played for the University of West Virginia. He began coaching, and later served as the athletic director, at the University of Michigan in 1901. At Michigan, he had eight undefeated seasons and won or tied for eight Big Ten championships.
