Born February 8, 1911, Elizabeth Bishop graduated from Vassar College and began writing and traveling. Her first book of poems, North & South, earned her the title of Poet Laureate of the United States, and its later edition won the Pulitzer Prize in 1956. Her work includes poems "In the Waiting Room" and "One Art," short story "In the Village" and verse collection Geography III.
