Singer and guitarist Casey James became a household name when he appeared and placed third on the ninth season of American Idol.


Casey James was born in Plano, Texas on May 31, 1982. He learned to play guitar and mandolin as a teenager, but was rebellious. He was arrested for drunk driving and spent time in prison. He became known in the U.S. after he appeared in the ninth season of American Idol where he placed third. He continues to perform, sing and make music.

Singer Casey James was born on May 31, 1982, in Plano, Texas. Casey James began singing as a young boy, and learned to play the guitar and mandolin as a teenager. James had a reckless adolescence, and had several run-ins with the law, which led to charges of driving while intoxicated, driving with an invalid license and reckless driving. As a result, the musician spent a little more than three months in prison throughout 2001 and 2002.

A full-time musician for the past 10 years, James became the lead singer and guitarist of the Casey James band, which began performing in 2008.

James came into the national spotlight in 2010 after he made it onto the ninth season of the reality competition American Idol. He placed third overall in the competition.
