Billy Wilder was born June 22, 1906 in Sucha, Austria[now Poland] and began working on French and German scripts in 1930's Europe. When Hitler rose to power, Wilder's Jewish background led him to emigrate, eventually making his way to the United States. Throughout his career, Wilder was nominated for 20 Oscar nominations and won 6, including Best Director.
