Antonio Guzmán Fernández was president of the Dominican Republic from 1978 to 1982, helping to stabilize the economy and demilitarize the government.


Antonio Guzmán Fernández was born on February 12, 1911, in La Vega, Dominican Republic, going on to become a leading member of the Dominican Revolutionary Party. He was secretary of agriculture under the Juan Bosch administration and was elected president in 1978, making strides in stabilizing the economy and repairing infrastructure through facing controversy. He committed suicide on July 4, 1982.
