Ana Castillo is an Hispanic-American poet whose work explores themes of race, sexuality, and gender.


Ana Castillo was born on June 15, 1953 in Chicago, Illinois. She studied art education at Northeastern Illinois University and became involved in Hispanic American artistic circles. Her first collection of poems, Otro Canto, was published in 1977. She coedited the Spanish edition of This Bridge Called My Back: Writings by Radical Women of Color, and edited Goddess of the Americas.
