American psychologist Albert Ellis was born on September 27, 1913, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He developed the psychotherapeutic approach known as rational emotive behavior therapy, which helps patients overcome irrational beliefs and unrealistic expectations. Ellis popularized his approach in numerous best-selling books and through weekly seminars. He established his own institute in 1959.
