Ahmad Shah Durrani was founder of the state of Afghanistan, ruler of the vast Afghan empire, and head of the central government.


Ahmad Shah Durrani was born 1722?, Multn, Punjab [now in Pakistan], or Hert [now in Afghanistan. A member of the noble Sadzai clan, he rose to command an Abdl cavalry group under Ndir Shah of Persia, and, on Ndir Shah's assassination, the Afghan chiefs elected Amad as shah. Embarking on the conquest of regions held by ineffectual rulers, he invaded India nine times between 1747 and 1769.
