New York's Fall Fashion Week begins today, and the streets are filled with beautiful people sporting the season's hot, new looks. Granted, BIO.com is not known for its great fashion advice, but we do love to dish about fashion icons, historical figures and literary geniuses. As it turns out, so does blogger and fashion expert John Jannuzzi, whose brilliant blog, Textbook, imagines how contemporary designers would dress famous figures of the past.
So, of course we couldn't resist asking him: If Josephine Baker were alive today, who would she be wearing? Here's what John dreamed up for our favorite chanteuse:
1. On stage at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées Coat by Marc Jacobs, dress by Prabal Gurung, shoes by Lanvin
2. Entertaining by day, espionage by evening Coat by Roland Mouret, dress by Marc Jacobs, shoes by Christian Dior
3. Dress by Oscar de la Renta, shoes by Mary Katrantzou
"Long before Midnight in Paris, people were longing to experience the Paris of the 20s. No doubt, the legendary Josephine Baker came to mind for many a dreamer. Yes, she had incredible style, but there was a lot more to Ms. Baker than met the eye. Aside from being one of the most famous entertainers of the time, she championed civil rights and acted as a spy for the French during World War II. Of course, she did this while wearing a banana skirt and not much else...well, not really, but you get the idea." - John Jannuzzi
