“Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only The Piano Player”– Elton John

Did you know?

The quote and album title, “Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only The Piano Player,” has its origin in a meeting between Elton John and comedian Groucho Marx. According to Philip Norman’s biography SIR ELTON: The Definitive Biography of Elton John, Marx gave Elton a mockingly hard time about the order of his name insisting it was reversed and should be John Elton, to which John ultimately surrendered saying to him, “Don’t shoot me, I’m only the piano player.” If you look closely at the album cover, you’ll see a nod to the Marx Brothers with a poster of their Go West film poster.
