There is nothing that can stop a trailblazer, no matter what the obstacles. Mary Mahoney was a woman who faced challenges but managed to overcome them by becoming the first African-American female certified nurse in the United States in 1879. Not bad at all for a woman whose prior experience in a hospital was working as a maid at the New England Hospital for Women and Children in Boston. Mahoney's lookalike, Lauryn Hill, broke barriers in the late 90s as the first woman and hip-hop artist to win five Grammys in one year. Unfortunately, these days, the modern-day musical phenom has found herself blazing a trail straight to prison due to five years of tax evasion. Maybe her much-anticipated upcoming album will help nurse her bank account now that she'll be forced to reckon with Uncle Sam. Do you know any public figures that share similar stories and faces?
